9 PlayStation stories you might have missed this week

1. Batman calls in some back-up in the new Arkham Knight trailer

The latest video for Rocksteady’s upcoming PS4 superhero sequel offered up a first glimpse of Robin, Nightwing and Catwoman in action. It goes without saying, but with less than two months until launch, this one is looking magnificent.

2. May’s PlayStation Plus line-up unveiled

The latest batch of PS Plus games go live this week: two delightfully unique Sony Santa Monica collaborations – Hohokum and The Unfinished Swan, out-there PS4 adventure Ether One, brilliant platformer Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition, the deliciously dark Murasaki Baby on PS Vita; and addictive twitch workout Race the Sun.

3. Adventure game guru Tim Schafer returns to his roots with Broken Age

The perennially brilliant mind behind the likes of Grim Fandango, Day of the Tentacle and Psychonauts unleashed his latest adventure this week: the delightfully nostalgic Broken Age. Just the thing for a rainy bank holiday weekend…

4. New Just Cause 3 trailer blows things up with style to spare

Just Cause 2 packed more pure, boisterous, gaudy fun into its sandbox than almost any other open-world on PS3 and, if the latest trailer is anything to go by, its PS4 follow-up is going to plaster an enormous smile on our faces too. Can’t wait.

5. New Store discounts on Alien Isolation, Destiny, Resident Evil HD, more

A hefty slate of games saw their prices slashed on PlayStation Store this week. My picks? Creative Assembly’s brilliantly tense Alien Isolation for a mere £15.99/€19.99, evergreen horror classic Resident Evil HD for £12.99/€15.99 and barmy FPS Shadow Warrior for just £11.99/€14.99.

6. Adventure Time invades LittleBigPlanet 3

This week saw the release of a new LittleBigPlanet level kit, letting you add Finn, Jake, Ice King, Gunter and The Cosmic Owl into your LBP creations. A match made in heaven, no?

7. The Simpsons come to Minecraft

The Simpsons

And LBP wasn’t the only game getting involved in some cartoon cross-over action. Minecraft welcomed the extended Simpsons family into the fold via a new DLC pack, as well as new female character Alex.

8. The Last of Us: Left Behind launches as a standalone game

Not only is Left Behind one of the very finest campaign DLC expansions ever created, but it’s also a moving, self-contained story that stands on its own two feet. Duly, from 12th May you’ll be able to download it from PlayStation Store as a standalone game.

9. Brand new maps arrive for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare

Call of Duty AW Ascendance

This week saw a generous serving of new content arrive for Activision’s FPS juggernaut, including four new multiplayer maps and a new chapter in the Exo Zombies story. Get involved.
