NBA 2K16 and Gone Home join PlayStation Plus this month

Hi everyone. Today we’re pleased to share with you two excellent PS4 games coming to PlayStation Plus on 7th June.

First up, we’re adding NBA 2K16 to the June lineup. One of the most critically acclaimed sports titles ever, the latest iteration of 2K’s basketball simulation offers robust offline modes like MyCareer and MyGM, and deep online modes including MyTeam and MyLeague. So be the baller you always wanted to be and guide your team to the NBA Championship.

Next up is Gone Home – one of the most talked about titles of the last few years. While it’s an interesting exploration/adventure game, it’s the narrative of Gone Home that really sets it apart. Developer The Fulbright Company has created an intimate and unique story that will live long in the memory.

Everything you need to know about The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Blood and Wine

Hello PlayStation! My name is Matthew Steinke, Lead Technical Designer with CD PROJEKT RED and I’m so excited to bring you this very special look at the Blood and Wine expansion, out today on PS4.

When we set out to design an entirely new region of The Witcher‘s vast living world, we wanted to take you on an fantastic journey far beyond the war ravaged villages of No Man’s Land and stormy beachfronts of the Skellige islands.

Taken directly from the pages of The Witcher fantasy novels, we welcome you to the Nilfgaardian realm of Toussaint; the enchanting and mysterious Land of Wine. Heavily inspired by the beauty and pageantry of the French/Italian countryside, Beauclair, the region’s capital, blends rolling hills, winding roads, charming villas and intriguing characters to create a colourful and vibrant landscape unlike anything you’ve seen in Hearts of Stone.

E3_2015_Mediakit_018

This change in contrast, from our traditional slavic mythos of The Wild Hunt to a world of fairytales gone wrong, opened a world of possibilities enabling us to craft a completely fresh adventure full of dark deeds, unexpected twists, romance and deceit.

Pouring all of that passion and creativity into over 30 hours of open-world exploration, we’ve packed the world with ancient elven ruins, surreal monsters and legendary places of power, where every point of interest takes you further down the rabbit hole and one step closer to unraveling the horrifying secret behind a strange beast terrorising the kingdom.

With all trails leading to dead ends, only The Witcher can solve the mystery and survive the evil lurking in the night. Along the way, you can team up with powerful allies, demonstrate your true fighting skill in the Grand Tourney and upgrade your combat abilities with 12 new skill augmenting Mutations.

E3_2015_Mediakit_018

To help prepare Geralt for his final quest, we’ve also added alchemical recipes, crafting schematics, and a new grandmaster level of Witcher armor featuring new looks and improved statistics for each of the existing Witcher schools.

For the intrepid explorers who enjoy delving even deeper into the world of The Witcher, 13 custom armour dyes can be applied individually to colour every piece of the set.

For all of the completionists out there, there’s also a set of rare dyes and alchemical dye recipes that can only be acquired by overcoming the most remote and challenging areas of the Toussaint region.

Looking back over all of the new features, I’d say this one is my favourite. Unlike an ancestral sword that deals more damage or a piece of relic armor that provides greater resistance to injury, with no impact on player statistics, this feature is all about experimentation, having fun and realising the story you wish to tell. A decision made based on all of the community feedback we’ve received over the last year, this new game mechanic is a special thanks from all of us here at CD PROJEKT RED to you, the best fans in the world!

#PLUSMOMENTS launches in the UK

We are debuting #PLUSMOMENTS in the UK – a site where you can check out PS4 online multiplayer game clips from PlayStation Plus members across the country. And by sharing your own video clips, you’ll have the chance to win some fantastic prizes.

We’ll be featuring three games every month, each with a specific challenge for you to complete and capture using the SHARE button. The top three videos in each challenge, as selected by us, will scoop the loot.

For June, we will be featuring challenges for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Call of Duty: Black Ops III and EA SPORTS FIFA 16. The prizes include signed Uncharted 4 artwork and a COD Black Ops III Juggernog mini-fridge. The challenges are detailed below:

Game Challenge 1 hashtag Challenge 1 detail Challenge 2 hashtag Challenge 2 detail Challenge 3 hashtag Challenge 3 detail
Uncharted 4 Down Best takedown in online multiplayer Kill Best kill in online multiplayer Rope Best kill while swinging on a rope in online multiplayer
CoD BLOPS III Head Best headshot in online multiplayer Special Best special ability kill in online multiplayer Throw Best throwing weapon kill in online multiplayer
FIFA 16 Volley Best volleyed goal in online multiplayer Save Best goal saving moment in online multiplayer Range Best long range goal in online multiplayer

To enter, share your clips to YouTube using the DUALSHOCK 4 wireless controller’s SHARE button. Make sure you include the hashtag ‘PLUSMOMENTS’ and the challenge hashtag, separated by a comma, in the tags section. You’ll also need to include your PSN ID. For example, if your clip is for the best kill in online multiplayer in Uncharted 4, you need to share to YouTube and include ‘PLUSMOMENTS, Kill’ in the tags section. Don’t forget that #PLUSMOMENTS is only open to PlayStation Plus members in the UK.

If you don’t have the above games, don’t worry! We’ll be using different games every month, and you can still share clips from any game to the site for the rest of the UK to see, whether they are your best bits or your funniest fails – as long as they are from online multiplayer modes.

Head to plusmoments.playstation.com for more details and to check out the competition.

Get gaming with PlayStation Plus and share your clips!

The PlayStation weekly wrap-up

“We could be heroes, just for one day,” someone much cooler than all of us once said. Well, now that Overwatch is here, heroes come in many shapes and sizes, and you can spend your entire weekend as a lightning wielding gorilla scientist if you want to! But while you take a break from fighting the good fight, here’s this week’s round-up of all the news from the PlayStation arena…

This week’s biggest new trailers

  1. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Blood and Wine

Equal parts colourfully vibrant and darkly mysterious, Geralt returns to beast-slaying action in this launch trailer for next week’s huge add-on to an already epic adventure.

  2. Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands

A quite frankly stunning level of detail is emerging from the shadowy world of Ghost Recon Wildlands; check it out here:

  3. Absolver

Ah, something new and shiny to feast your eyes on. This one comes from a crack team of former Ubisoft developers and looks very exciting indeed.

Tweets of the week:

Around the world of PlayStation

This week, everyone seemed to have an opinion on the best way to play Overwatch – although news didn’t seem to reach the seven kingdoms of Westeros. Away from Blizzard’s new shooter, folks have been getting creative in DOOM, living a treasure hunter’s life for realm, while a familiar face has been popping up again in a few spots online…

  • The lure of fortune and glory was clearly too much for the crazy kids over at Freakin Rad, who have brought Uncharted 4 to life in this brilliant live action short film.

  • Conan O’Brian stepped into the Overwatch arena alongside Peter Dinklage and Lena Headey for some hilarious Clueless Gamer action. Okay, so they were using some funny looking controllers, but they are Lannisters after all.

  • The lucky folks over at IGN have got hands-on with The Last Guardian and learned a little more about Trico and how you’ll interact with him in in this incredible adventure. Read more.
  • DOOM’s SnapMap mode gives you the power to recreate hell – and some users have been putting this to excellent use. Our friends over at Games Radar have put together this list of the top 10 maps they’ve found.

This week’s PlayStation Store ‘leftfield’ pick:

So you’ve fallen down a well full of meanies – hey, it happens, right? Our advice is to never leave home without your Gunboots, as we learned this week from the excellent Downwell, available now on PlayStation Store.

The pick of PlayStation Blog:

  1. 21 expert tips for getting ahead in Overwatch
Straight from the experts at Blizzard, hone your style with each of Overwatch’s heroes.
  2. Uncharted 4 sold more than 2.7 million copies in its first week
Excuse us for blowing our own trumpet, but there’s a palpable glow of pride around PlayStation HQ about this one – all thanks to the genius work of our colleagues at Naughty Dog.
  3. World of Warriors, from the creator of Moshi Monsters, is coming to PS4
How much fun does World of Warriors look? A LOT. It’s coming exclusively to PS4, and we can’t wait to join in the mayhem.

The rest of the week’s headlines:

What we’re playing:

  • Corey: “With Axiom Verge hitting PS Vita recently, I’ve finally got time to play this masterpiece of atmosphere and design. The only thing is, it’s making me crave more Spelunky too, and I’m not sure my heart can take that.”
  • Fred: “I finally got my act together and jumped into Uncharted 4. I’m making exceedingly slow progress though, as I have to stop every 30 seconds to pull up Photo Mode. Gosh, it’s pretty.”
  • Rhys: “I’ve had an Uncharted 4 week too – my jaw is still on the floor from the market square/jeep chase level. Even though we’d been shown it nearly a year ago at E3, that whole set piece still grabbed me by the scruff of the neck and dragged me through the mud.”
  • Matt:Alienation – finally made it to the end-game raid and hoping to bag my first 12-core legendary weapon (the Platinum will be mine!).”

An update on No Man’s Sky

Hello, Sean Murray from Hello Games here, working extremely hard on our game, No Man’s Sky.

The game really has come together, and it’s such an incredible relief. As we sit and play it now, and as I watch playtesters every day, I can finally let myself get excited. We’re actually doing this.

However, as we approached our final deadlines, we realised that some key moments needed extra polish to bring them up to our standards. I have had to make the tough choice to delay the game for a few weeks to allow us to deliver something special.

After a short delay, No Man’s Sky will launch in Europe on 10th August in Europe, 12th August in the UK.

We understand that this news is disappointing. Making this game is the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life, but we are so close now, and we’re prepared to make the tough choices to get it right.

The universe of No Man’s Sky is incredibly vast. More than you can imagine. This is a type of game that hasn’t been attempted before, by a smaller team than anyone would expect, under an intense amount of expectation.

And despite all of that, development is genuinely going well. This is the hardest-working, most talented team I’ve ever worked with, and I’m so proud of what we’re doing. For all our sakes though, we get one shot to make this game and we can’t mess it up.

To the loyal community who’s stuck by our side since the unveiling of No Man’s Sky years ago, we hope you’ll accept our sincere apology and I am humbly asking that you’ll still look forward to exploring our universe despite the slight delay.

Thank you so much,

Sean

Hit action MOBA Smite launches next week on PS4

It’s official – Smite, the world’s No. 1 action MOBA, will exit beta and launch on 31st May on PlayStation 4.

Never heard of Smite? Wondering if it’s the right game for you? Here’s a quick quiz:

  • Do you like action? ✓
  • Do you like games that are easy to pick up, but tuned for competitive play? ✓
  • Do you think most MOBAs look way too slow/boring/complicated? ✓
  • Do you think FREE is the perfect price? ✓

If you said yes, you’re just like the 20+ million players who have entered the Battleground of the Gods.

In Smite, you become a God from ancient mythology like the mighty Zeus, Greek God of the Sky or the magical Kukulkan, the Mayan Serpent of the Nine Winds. Then it’s all on you to unleash your deity’s unique fighting style, legendary weapons, and earth-shattering powers to defeat your foes.

Smite pioneered – and perfected – the third-person perspective MOBA. Smite puts you into the heart of the action, not looking down at a tiny character or floating behind a lumbering oaf.

If you’re new to MOBAs, there’s no better game to start with than Smite.

Already, millions of PlayStation 4 gamers have tried Smite during our ongoing beta test. But if you haven’t played Smite since beta began, you might be surprised at what’s changed:

  • Doubled frame rate: Smite is now optimized at 60 FPS!
  • Divine Trophies: Show off your godly play with awesome Trophies
  • New game modes: Our small-scale 5v5 Clash and Siege modes are a great, streamlined introduction to MOBA-style gameplay
  • New Gods: We’ve added four new gods to Smite during beta, bringing our total count to 75
  • Activity feed: Let all your friends know when you master a God, earn an award, or hit max level

While this may seem like a lot of change for a beta, frequent and free updates are a way of life for Smite: We introduce new content every two-to-three weeks, year-round. There’s always something new awaiting you in the Battleground of the Gods, like our Viking Invasion event starting next week.
