This War of Mine: The Little Ones arrives on PS4 today

Hello Gamers! Pawel from 11 bit studios here. Today is a big day – This War of Mine: The Little Ones has launched on PS4. Your actions and choices will make it a very personal experience. But what does that mean?

War has broken out and your group of survivors stuck in a destroyed city have taken over a building that will be your shelter. At first the survivors are in more or less good shape, but soon the situation becomes tougher, and it’s up to you to keep your group alive and fighting.

It’s up to you to go scavenging to get the resources people need. A supermarket sounds like a place where you could find food, and maybe some tools to craft something in your shelter. But! You barely have space left in your backpack to carry it all. Food is more important and that’s your first choice… but you might regret that later when you desperately need tools to create a heater as snow begins to fall.

E3_2015_Mediakit_018

So you find food and take it without hesitation. It turns out it belonged to some guy carrying a gun. He threatens you, so without thinking you quickly punch him and escape. Luckily you’ve made it safely back to shelter. Other civilians start to feel better after finally eating something, but Nadia, a member of your group, seems so sad. For her it was just a theft. Why won’t she understand like the rest of the group do?

You remember there was a guy you met in a cottage a few nights earlier. He said his father was sick and would trade some of his items for medication. Another tough choice – what if you trade medication for food and you or Nadia get sick later?

You decide food is the most important resource and go back to the cottage this guy is guarding. You approach him cautiously to offer the meds, and he even seems a bit happy, almost like a slither of hope appeared and his father might be saved. He gives you food in exchange, but is so happy he even gives you a gun!

DN_011 DN_020DN_CO-OP_004

But you return to the shelter only to find Nadia is sick. But she’s happy, she feels you made the right decision to give medication to the guy’s father. That’s what people should do, she says. Nevertheless, she needs treatment and there has to be a way to get her the antibiotics she needs.

That’s not all however – your child who was once surprisingly easy-going and seemed to accept what was going on has started to isolate herself and walk alone around the shelter. You know that’s a bad sign. You should do something about it, but you haven’t slept for a long time. If you spend time to play with her you won’t be able to go out under cover of the night to get that medication.

That is just one short example of millions of possible scenarios and the choices you’ll face. In the game you’ll have to overcome lots of these situations through gameplay. Every single choice you make shapes the story. Narrate it and see what unfolds. Your story starts today.

New King of Fighters XIV roster details revealed

Since the reveal of our first playable demo of The King of Fighters XIV at PlayStation Experience 2015, we know a lot of fans have been starving for more information. In line with the recent Taipei Game Show, the dev team is pleased to detail our latest character reveals!

I’m happy to let the PlayStation Nation know that fan favourite characters K’, Benimaru Nikaido and Robert Garcia will be returning to the ring in King of Fighters XIV’s massive roster of 50 characters.

The King of Fighters XIV on PS4

Benimaru Nikaido

First debuting as an original King of Fighters character in ’94’s Japan Team, along with his distinct hairstyle, Benimaru “The Shooting Star” Nikaido is known to be one of the most flamboyant characters in the KOF Universe. His lightning powers will make him a formidable opponent against any rival!

Robert Garcia

A classic Art of Fighting Team member, this memorable latin lover of powerful kicks returns to KOF once again! A suave practitioner of Kyokugen-ryu Karate (and Osaka-dialect, hehe), his lavish style is sure to attract many players.

#07 - 20140604-0190#08 - Co_Op (5)

K’ (kei-dash)

Protagonist of the “NESTS Saga” (KOF ’99~2001), this dark hero is widely regarded as one of the coolest, most popular characters in the KOF Series. Along with Kula Diamond, be sure to watch out for their fire and ice!

Creator’s Comment — Lead Game Designer, Yuji Watanabe:
For the latest three characters we’ve announced, the team has been adding some brand new Special Moves and bringing back some of the classic ones as well! Please look forward to a finely-crafted move list later this year.

E3_2015_Mediakit_018

Although the dev team is buckled down, currently working hard to provide a new installment both fans and new players will be very satisfied with, please be sure to let us know what future events and venues you would like to see King of Fighters XIV playable at throughout 2016!

I’m sorry I cannot reveal more exciting information at this time, but please look forward to more King of Fighters XIV character announcements in the near future!

Stikbold! A Dodgeball Adventure announced for PS4

Grab your gym shorts and hang onto your headbands! Our hard-hitting sports brawler, Stikbold! A Dodgeball Adventure, is coming to PlayStation 4!

Stikbold! is a quirky, over-the-top action sports game described best as a mix of dodgeball and a fighting game. Make use of everything from dodgeballs and jellyfish to beehives to eliminate your competitors as you duke it out, against friends and family, on a variety of unlikely courts.

Or, team up with your best friend, favourite relative or even the A.I., and venture out on an exciting co-op adventure in the charming story campaign. Fight your way through hippies, whales, skeletons and more, as you set out on a selfless rescue mission to save the rival team and win back the championship trophy!

E3_2015_Mediakit_018

Origins

The original concept for the game came about during Nordic Game Jam. We were five eager game design students from IT-University in Copenhagen and we joined forces around the strange experiment that eventually became Stikbold!.

Stikbold! received the ‘most fun’ award and came in third overall. This encouraged us to continue work on the game, with the goal of turning it into a full-blown console release. To pursue our dreams we formed a company and began a long and exciting journey!

DN_011 DN_020DN_CO-OP_004

Inspiration

Stikbold is actually the name of a Scandinavian folk game often played in schoolyards and at playgrounds during recess or Physical Education. Like most folk games, Stikbold has a ton of variations and abbreviations, but is always a type of tag played by chugging balls after each other.

Stikbold! A Dodgeball Adventure is a very loose interpretation of its folk game counterpart. Mainly we have focused on cultivating the foundations of folk/playground games, which are typically very playful, festive and inclusive by nature.

In this spirit, we try to give players increased agency and responsibility over the action and outcome of the matches to make the game feel more personal. For instance, players may take control of various hazardous events after elimination from the round. Apart from giving eliminated players something to do between rounds, this is an encouragement for them to intervene with the balance of the action.

Whether players opt to chase revenge on their nemesis or target the leading player, this influence often lead to wonderfully personal player interactions. Making the action personal is an attempt to play into the social dynamics of couch multiplay – a feeling we hope is coming through when you’re playing the game.

If you have comments, questions or just want to know more, you can follow the game on Twitter @Stikbold or check out Stikbold.com.

Need for Speed ‘Showcase’ update goes live on 3rd February

Hey everyone! Great to be back here on PlayStation Blog. I’m excited to tell you all about our latest Need for Speed update, coming 3rd February to PlayStation 4, for free. The Showcase update is all about showing off your creativity and we’ll be giving you a couple of new tools to do just that.

E3_2015_Mediakit_018

Wrap sharing

We’ve been watching you use the Share button to show off the awesome wrap you’ve made for your ride. But wouldn’t it be great if you could share your creation with the rest of the PlayStation community? Well now you can!

With the new Wrap Sharing tool you’ll be able to not only share your own wraps but download others as well, ensuring your ride will always look awesome as you rock the streets of Ventura Bay.

Snapshot Pro

Building an awesome ride is only part of the fun – the other is showcasing it for the world to see. That’s why we’re introducing Snapshot Pro, a mode which will allow you to create some stunning photos of your favourite car.

Once you enter Snapshot Pro mode you’ll be able to maneuver the camera around the car, apply a number of custom settings such as depth of field, brightness, contrast, vignette, saturation and more.

If you’re short on time then you’ll be able to take advantage of a number of the pre-set filters, allowing you to create an awesome photo very quickly.

E3_2015_Mediakit_018

Customisation items

At the heart of the Need for Speed experience is the ability to customise your ride. Since we launched last November it’s remained one of the big talking points amongst our community and we’re following in the footsteps of the Legends update where we included 100+ new items by doing the same next week.

In total 11 new cars are getting new items, including the Ford Focus RS, BMW M3 E92, Ford Mustang GT and Nissan Silvia Spec-R.

License plates

Add that extra touch of personalisation with the ability to customise your License Plate. You’ll be able to choose from a selection of backgrounds representing past NFS games including; Redview, Fairhaven, Palmont City, Rockport, Olympic City, Bayview and Tri City Bay. Alongside the backgrounds you’ll also be able to apply a number of frames to complete the look.

New Trophies

Trophy hunters rejoice, we’ve got three new trophies coming your way:

  • Filter Addict – Take a Snapshot with a Filter in Snapshot Pro Mode
  • Wrap Artist – Share a Wrap with the Need for Speed Community
  • Climbing the Ranks – Reach Monthly Rank 10 by completing Daily Challenges

All of these features and more will be coming to PlayStation 4 on 3rd February and will be part of the free Showcase update.

Underwater adventure Song of the Deep announced for PS4, from Insomniac Games

I’d like to invite you on a journey. It’s a journey of courage and discovery in a haunting, lonely world. As a child there were a few games that changed my life. Their stories changed how I thought about the world and how I thought about myself. Their journeys are ones that I still remember to this day.

What I love most about games as a medium is that they can take you to a world you’ve never seen and let you discover it on your own. At Insomniac, inventing new worlds is probably the best part of our job. You might have been inside one of them before. Maybe it was a magical world of dragons, or a fantastic science fiction galaxy. Or maybe it was crazy city where the apocalypse became your playground.

We’ve been hard at work on a new world. This one is built on a fantasy that I think we all share. The fantasy of the terrors and wonder that might lie in the depths of the sea. The endless possibilities that could be just outside our view, and the still undiscovered nightmares that might lurk in the deep.

DN_011 DN_020DN_CO-OP_004

It’s a world where everything is interactive in surprising ways. Where every new area has its own secrets and mysteries for you to discover.

The story is about love and heartbreak. It’s about going on a seemingly impossible journey to try to help someone you love.

It’s the journey of a girl named Merryn in a game we call Song of the Deep.

#07 - 20140604-0190#08 - Co_Op (5)

In this game you’ll explore a huge undersea world, both free-diving and in a submarine. It’s a Metroidvania style of progression where you are constantly getting new abilities and figuring out ways to upgrade them as you take on the seemingly impossible obstacles that stand in your way. It’s a challenging journey, designed to test your mind and your reflexes in equal amounts.

Making the game has been a labour of love for our team, and we hope it will be a journey that you too will love and remember.

Song of the Deep will launch this summer on PS4. You can check here for updates, or the Insomniac Games website and our social channels.

We Are Doomed arrives on PS Vita next month

We Are Doomed is a twin-stick shooter where you zap polygon baddies with an absurdly overpowered laserbeam. It’s pure arcade action: no cutscenes, no storyline, no lengthy tutorials. It’s a perfect fit for PS Vita, and you’ll be able to get your hands on it soon: 9th February, 2016.

It also supports Cross Buy, so if you’ve already enjoyed We Are Doomed on PS4 you’ll get to play it on-the-go absolutely free.

One of the great joys I’ve had is checking out the incredible scores that the PlayStation community have achieved on PS4. So for the PS Vita version, I decided to put together a tips guide. Maybe it’ll help you make it to the top?

Collect Trinkets, then Superbeam!

Collecting Trinkets (the purple cubes and diamonds) does two things: increments your score multiplier, and fills the Superbeam meter.

The basic strategy is to fill the meter, wait for a screen full of baddies, and then trigger the Superbeam to wipe them all out (at 2x the points, no less).

But here’s the catch: once you fill the meter, you can’t bank any more Superbeams. So the longer you hold off finding the perfect moment to use it, the less potential you have for filling up the meter again. Like everything in life, finding the right balance is essential.

E3_2015_Mediakit_018

Positioning is key

Playing fast and aggressive is important, but so is staying alive! Always be aware of your position relative to the enemies. The enemies are designed to swarm the player, so watch out!

Learning the enemy tactics will help you better position yourself and prioritise targets. A few specific tips:

  • Asteroids generally can’t be destroyed, but if you’re in a bind, firing the Superbeam will do the trick.
  • Blasters (the yellow projectile-firing enemies) are aggressive but largely stationary. As long as you keep track of where they all are, you can delay taking them out and maybe collect a nice looking Trinket instead.
  • Tadpoles seem harmless, but they dash quickly and multiply in number even faster. Even when it looks safe, keep your distance!

E3_2015_Mediakit_018

Practice!

Above all, We Are Doomed is a skill-based game. There is no levelling and no upgrades, just your skills improving over time. If you want to get better, you need to get better! And that takes practice. So it’s a good thing you’ll have your PS Vita on you all the time, eh?

We Are Doomed is coming to PS Vita on 9th February, 2016. I hope you enjoy it, and I hope to see even more fantastic scores on the leaderboards soon.

PS: If you’re already a We Are Doomed fan (thx! <3) and want tips on something more specific, ask away in the comments and I’ll try to answer as many as I can!

Gastronomic puzzle-platformer Organic Panic comes to PS4 in March

When my brother, Anatole, and I first hatched the plan to make a game independently, we never imagined where it would take us.

We started off thinking about the kinds of games we grew up with and how much fun playing games together has always been. We love old-school action-platformers and games that let you experiment creatively with how you solve problems, so combining those ideas was essential. It’s fair to say we’re influenced by classics like Chaos, Lemmings, Worms, Gears, and LittleBigPlanet, but we wanted to push it further with totally destructible environments and fluid dynamics!

What came from that vision is our debut title, Organic Panic, which we’re beyond excited to announce is coming to PS4 this March!

#07 - 20140604-0190#08 - Co_Op (5)

Organic Panic is a physics-based puzzle-platformer that pits the main food groups against each other in a chaotically fun and lighthearted battle royale extravaganza!

What brings all the madness together is the incredible D.A.F.T – Destructible and Fluid Technology – Engine. Anything goes, because nearly every environmental element (characters, platforms, enemies, weapons, etc.) can be controlled and manipulated in some clever way.

Earth can be smashed through, wood floats and burns, lightning conducts, ice slips and melts, water flows and douses fire, rubber bounces, acid disintegrates, and the list goes on! Basically you’re left to your own devices as to how to use all the powers and physics at your disposal.

DN_011 DN_020DN_CO-OP_004

It’s a seriously big game with over 200 highly refined and totally destructible levels of action and puzzles, but we keep it fresh with new worlds and game modes to explore. The single-player quest is driven by a comedic story, but we’ve also got local couch co-op and versus modes for up to four! The controls are straightforward enough that you can easily pull newcomers in, but there are still enough tools for hardcore players to discover their own unique strategies to go for gold on the leaderboards.

We’ve had quite the adventure with Organic Panic, from our successful Kickstarter to shows like PAX Prime, PAX East, and IndieCade. We’ll be at PAX East with the game again this year, so feel free to drop by to say hi or play a quick match – we’ve got lots of freebies left over from our Kickstarter to dish out!

#07 - 20140604-0190#08 - Co_Op (5)

Watching people play the final product is always so cool for us. We designed most of the levels with multiple ways to solve them, so we still see people figure things out in ways we hadn’t even imagined. I watch my son play it and he rips through them in crazy ways (he’s six now, though he’s been testing the game for three years already – child services should have really been knocking at my door a long time ago for that much child labour!).

This type of genuine freedom to brainstorm your own solution to any problem is the backbone of Organic Panic, and it’s why we can’t wait to get the final product in the PlayStation community’s hands.

If you want to see more about our ridiculously long journey, please check out our Facebook, Twitter and blog.

You can join the food fight when Organic Panic arrives on PlayStation Store for PS4 in March!

VidZone pays tribute to the late, great Mr. Bowie with a playlist featuring all of his best and most-loved songs and music videos including ‘Life On Mars?’, ‘Heroes’, ‘Let’s Dance’ as well as the latest and poignant video for ‘Lazarus’ from his new album Blackstar.
