11 brilliant shooters that are cheaper than you thought on PlayStation Store this weekend

Are you the shoot-first-and-ask-questions-later kind of gamer? We don’t blame you – the throaty rapport of your favourite pea-shooter letting rip as you blast your way through legions of zombies is hard to beat.

So, for all those of you in search of some fresh first and third person action to keep you amused this weekend look no further than PlayStation Store’s massive Double Discounts promotion, with extra savings for PS Plus members. Here are our highlights for shooter fans:

1. Titanfall 2: Ultimate Edition

It was Shakespeare who said it best: “Go big or go home”. We think it was Shakespeare, anyway… Whatever the case, it doesn’t come much bigger than Titanfall 2.

Strap into your very own gun-toting war-bot and blast your way out of enemy territory in single player or go toe-to-toe with other Titans in multiplayer. Lightening quick and lethal at any range, the Titans and their wall-running, jet-pack jumping pilots are the ultimate battlefield bad-asses.

2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered

Regarded by many as a stone-cold genre classic, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare holds a special place in the hearts of many FPS fans. The title that launched a modern gaming mega-franchise, Activision launched a remastered version in 2016.

Fully retooled with the latest technology, this iconic title looks and plays better than ever. Just wait until you get a look at Captain Price’s lustrous facial hair in full-HD – it’s a thing of beauty!

3. Metro Redux

Based on the novels by Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky, the Metro series offers a truly oppressive FPS experience. Set in a post-nuclear apocalypse, you must scavenge weapons and ammunition to fight off hordes of ‘Dark Ones’ (strange mutated creatures) as well as members of a new Nazi regime known as ‘The Fourth Reich’.

Originally released on PS3, both Metro 2033 and its follow up Metro Last Light were remastered for PlayStation 4 and are both included with Metro Redux.

4. Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition

A uniquely raucous shooter of the most over-the-top variety, Bulletstorm prizes two things: humongous weapons and effortless style.

As exiled former assassin Grayson Hunt, it won’t simply be enough to mow down you enemies with the nearest firearm to hand. No, if you want to really master Bulletstorm, you’ll have to make the action look good. This means multi-kills, creative use of the environment and a few tricks from your trusty ‘Laser Leash’.

5. Destiny 2 – Digital Deluxe Edition

The follow up to Bungie’s phenomenally successful sci-fi shooter landed on PS4 in 2017 bringing all the game’s original charm along with a brand-new campaign, new levelling and loot systems, and heaps of fresh locations to explore.

With the first expansion ‘Rise of Osiris’ already released and second expansion ‘Warmind’ due for release next month, there’s no better time to jump in.

6. Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 – Season Pass Edition

Hot on the heels of its predecessors, Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 transports you to the Russian/Ukrainian border to search for a missing sibling, a dangerous pair of Georgian separatists and a Russian scientist.

Breaking with the linear design of previous titles, this third outing places you into a broad, open-world scenario brimming with sandbox gameplay. Whether you’re looking to live-up to the title’s stealthy injunctions or run in all guns blazing, Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 has you covered.

7. Killing Floor 2

One for the multiplayer aficionados here – and the zombie aficionados too, come to think of it! Putting co-operative play front and centre, Killing Floor 2 enjoins you and up to five friends to strap on an absolutely absurd amount of guns and melee weapons and indulge in the perennial past-time of zombie slaying.

Wave-based, highly-tactical and harder than a coffin nail, Killing Floor 2 wears its old-school roots with pride. Our advice: make your shots count, work as a team and, if you see something that looks like a flayed version of Brue Banner’s alter ego, run.

8. Star Wars Battlefront – Ultimate Edition

What’s more iconic amid the Star Wars universe than a light sabre? Well, not much really, but the unmistakable sound of the Imperial troopers’ plasma rifles showering a corridor in neon blasts must be a close second.

If you’ve a fondness for that legendary ‘pew, pew, pew’ and you missed out on 2015’s Star Wars Battlefront, then you can pick it up for mere pocket change in our PlayStation Plus Double Discounts promotion.

9. Sniper Elite 4 – Digital Deluxe Edition

Fancy a trip to the continent? How about Nazi-occupied Italy, circa 1942? Okay, it’s not exactly a prime holiday location, but for a man with a Lee Enfield Rifle and a Nazi general on his hit list, it’s as good a place as any.

The fourth instalment in the Sniper Elite series delivers all the signature kill-cam glory along with vastly expanded mission areas, boatloads of new weapons and more opportunities for a cheeky environmental kill than you can shake a stick (grenade) at.

10. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare – Deluxe Edition

It was only a matter of time really: having successfully envisioned armed conflict of the past, present and future, on most corners of the Earth, sooner or later Call of Duty was going to have to look farther afield. So it was, in 2016, that the series blasted off into outer space.

Featuring all the classy touches you’d expect from Call of Duty, along with a bunch of new tricks (zero-gravity combat anyone?), Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare stands out as one of the most daring and original titles in the series to date.

11. The Shadow Warrior Collection

A throwback to the Build Engine hey-day of PC gaming brought boldly up-to-date for modern consoles, Shadow Warrior takes that cheeky brand of ’90s humour and gives it a contemporary make-over.

For a knocked-down price this weekend, you’ll get not one but two full-length games filled with a fair amount of toilet humour, dozens of unlikely weapons and demonic monstrosities of every conceivable kind. Sure it’s silly, but it’s also a hell of a lot of a fun!
