Fu’Un Super Combo hits PS4 today, ft. a pair of previously Japan-only PS2 fighting games

Our team at SNK has worked closely with Sony in order to bring a collection of older titles to their PS2 Games initiative on PS4. We believe in remembering and highlighting our past works and history and feel it is important to offer our fans the opportunity to play these classic games on modern hardware.

Our release this week is of particular importance as it is the first import title we have released as part of the program. Fu’Un Super Combo which releases today is a PS2 compilation that has only seen release in Japan up until now.

This release contains both Savage Reign and its sequel Kizuna Encounter. The PS2 release also included new content such as arranged soundtracks for both titles and the inclusion of a colour edit mode to allow players to customise their favorite character.

It is also important to point out that although this is a Japanese import release, it is possible to change the in-game text language from the options menu inside both games. Savage Reign supports English and Spanish while Kizuna Encounter supports English, Spanish and Portuguese.

These two fighting games both offer unique but different gameplay experiences. Savage Reign combines unique weapon-based combat with the ability to jump between a lower and upper field, much like games in the Fatal Fury series. Kizuna Encounter changes things up by replacing the ability to jump between the foreground and background with a new tag battle system. Your tag partner will hang out in the background until you call them in from the special tag zones. Once either one of your characters are KO’d that signals the end of the match so mastering the tag battle system is the key to victory!

Fu’Un Super Combo is just the first import release we have planned and we would like to take this chance to tease our next release as well! Early next year we will be releasing ADK Damashii, another PS2 compilation that was only released in Japan. It includes 5 classic NEOGEO games: Aggressors of Dark Kombat, Ninja Master’s: Haō Ninpō Chō, Ninja Combat, Ninja Commando, and Twinkle Star Sprites. The inclusion of Ninja Master’s: Haō Ninpō Chō should be of particular interest to NeoGeo fans and collectors alike, as that is one of the rarest NeoGeo cartridges in existence and regularly goes on sale for ridiculous prices.
