The PlayStation weekly wrap-up

So it turns out everyone is going to Hell this week, but at least we all have each other for company, right? (Erm, just ignore that Cacodemon in the corner.) Shotguns at the ready, good people – things are about to get a tad hot…

This week’s biggest new trailers

  1. Gran Turismo Sport – unveiling video
Wasn’t fast enough to catch the exclusive presentation event with Polyphony Digital supremo Kazunori Yamauchi? Catch up here with the world’s first public showing of Gran Turismo Sport.

  2. Overwatch – animated short “Dragons”
Another slick entry to Blizzard’s animated shorts, laying down some backstory to two more characters in the forthcoming multiplayer first-person shooter.

Tweets of the week:

Around the world of PlayStation:

As DOOM takes you to gaming heaven via Hell this week, it’s probably no surprise that there’s a distinct theme with some of the rather fun stories which have popped up…

  • If you’re from the land of Oz and of a timid disposition, you may want to avoid the garden of Australia’s number one chainsaw artist, Rob Bast. He’s carved up a stunning DOOM sculpture, currently exhibiting at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image in Melbourne.

  • On a slightly less terrifying note, animator Lee Hardcastle’s Claymation version of DOOM is hilariously great.

  • If you thought Uncharted 4 was beautiful, just wait until you see the staggering art portfolios of 38 Naughty Dog artists, courtesy of ArtStation.
  • Who knew the cast of Uncharted 4 looked so good on the dance floor? Tumblr user Kimbree shows the brilliant results when you mix the multiplayer avatar creator with DNCE’s head bobbing hit Cake by the Ocean.
  • You may have missed Media Molecule’s latest Dreams livestream but we won’t hold it against you. This week the team sculpts some bipeds using tools in the eagerly anticipated PS4 game.

This week’s PlayStation Store ‘leftfield’ pick:

Some great PS2 RPG action now with trophy support and an HD buff on our PS4? Don’t mind if we do. Wild Arms 3 has got all your turn-based, gun slinging and magic casting needs covered this weekend.

The pick of PlayStation Blog:

  1. Gran Turismo Sport launches on 16 November 2016
Speed, power, precision – Gran Turismo is back, and we’ve got another quick look lined up for you right here.
  2. Meet real life Nathan Drakes in our ‘Conquer the Uncharted’ video series
Death defying feats are just another day in the life of these guys – take a look at the first daredevil inspired by Nate and the Uncharted series.
  3. Why we’re in love with DOOM
The team here at PlayStation is totally smitten with id Software’s outrageously OTT FPS. Find out why we just can’t get enough

And the rest of the headlines:

What we’re currently playing:

  • Fred – “Sorry, still can’t extract myself from Dark Souls 3‘s evil embrace. It’s becoming a problem.”
  • Matt – “Diablo III: Reaper of Souls Ultimate Edition and DOOM. I like my games like I like my drinks: a high-octane shot of guns and gore chased down with a tall glass of dungeon crawling.”
  • Rhys – “With Uncharted 4 still on ice until I can give it the time and attention it deserves, DOOM has scratched my pick-up-and-play itch very nicely – albeit, scratched that itch with a blood soaked chainsaw.”
  • Corey – “Grim Fandango Remastered… although my tendency to randomly shout out at other commuters: ‘Run you pigeons! It’s Robert Frost!’ is probably going to get me arrested. Or, you know, a fate even more ironic.”

And that’s your lot – have a great weekend and let us know what you’re playing. We’ll see you again come Monday…
