Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’s Ascendance DLC launches today

In February, you wreaked Havoc, now get ready for Ascendance, the next DLC pack for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. Available now on PS4 and PS3, Ascendance’s introduces four new multiplayer maps, a new directed energy weapon, and Infection, the next chapter in Exo Zombies.

For the competitive multiplayer crowd, Ascendance’s four new maps – Perplex, Site 244, Climate, and Chop Shop – will take the fight to new destinations, ranging from an alien crash site beneath Mt. Rushmore to the corridors of a black market exoskeleton complex.

But there’s more to the maps than just new environments: Ascendance introduces a new Exo Grappling ability, which allows players to rapidly reach an elevated vantage point. Players will be able to sample the new mechanic in an Exo Grappling ability playlist exclusively for Ascendance maps.

Here’s a rundown of each map:

Perplex

Venture to the streets of Sydney and battle through a five-story modular apartment complex. With elevated vantages and tight corridors, Perplex is small-to-medium sized map that fits variety of play styles. Construction drones will shake things up, however, as they shift apartment modules and create new strategic pathways.

Site 244

An alien craft has crash-landed beneath Mt. Rushmore, USA, making for an awesome medium-to-large sized three-lane map littered with extraterrestrial debris. Gain a competitive edge by earning the map-based scorestreak to open an alien spore that enhances your perks and exo abilities.

 

Climate

Settle in to your dome away from home in Climate – a lush climate-controlled bio dome. With a circular layout with a central island structure for teams to fight for control of, Climate keeps the pace of the action high. The tides can turn, however, when the rivers begin to rage and become a treacherous obstacle.

Chop Shop

Discover the seedy underbelly of the unauthourised exoskeleton trade in Chop Shop, a medium-sized industrial complex with a devastating map-based scorestreak: the Advanced Repulsion Turret.

Ascendance also continues the Exo Zombies story with Infection, a brand new chapter wherein the four survivors find themselves on the outskirts of the mutant-ravaged Atlas Corporation facility and facing new, never-before-seen enemies.

The returning celebrity cast of John Malkovich (In the Line of Fire, RED, Burn After Reading), Bill Paxton (Aliens, Titanic, Edge of Tomorrow), Rose McGowan (Planet Terror, Scream), and Jon Bernthal (Fury) fight tooth and nail through undead zombie hordes.

To help them in their fight for survival, players will leverage an expanded arsenal of weapons and traps. And if you’re a longtime fan of the series, you might spot a familiar fast food chain within the zombie-filled ruins. That’s right, it’s time for another trip to Burgertown.

Lastly, Ascendance introduces a new weapon to Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare multiplayer: the OHM directed energy hybrid weapon. Packing a powerful punch between its two switchable LMG and shotgun modes, the OHM is ideal for laying down suppressing fire or clearing out an objective.

Prison breakout sim The Escapists tunnels onto PS4 on 29th May

Hello again PlayStation Blog readers! Along with independent developer Mouldy Toof, we’re thrilled to let you know that The Escapists will be heading to PS4 on 29th May!

The award-winning sandbox prison-escape game features six uniquely themed prisons to escape from. Escaping won’t be easy though. You’ll have to work around the strict prison schedule and avoid the unwanted attention of guards!

 
You’ll need some cash to put your plan in to action. Get a prison job or perform favour requests for your fellow inmates to earn those vital funds. You can then use them to barter with traders for tools and crafting supplies. Just make sure you find a good hiding place for your stash and pay attention during roll call to avoid cell shakedown, you wouldn’t want to lose that coveted shovel you’ve worked so hard to gather and craft!

Once you’ve tried your hand at all six prisons, you can even try to escape from one of the most famous prisons in the world with the Alcatraz DLC prison! Many have tried to escape, many have failed. Now is your chance to add your name to this list of ‘famous’ escape attempts as you try and escape from one of America’s strongest prisons.

Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary has been rebuilt in The Escapists. Master the daily routine, plan your strategy and execute your very own Alcatraz escape!

The Escapists will be available to download on PS4 on 29th May for just £14.99/€17.99. The Escapists Alcatraz DLC prison will be available for just £1.99/€2.49.

Destiny: House of Wolves – new Crucible details

Destiny’s second expansion is bringing a bigger, more rewarding competitive experience. In addition to three new Crucible maps (plus an exclusive fourth map for PS4 and PS3 owners), Bungie is shaking up the formula with more loot and more activities for high-level players.

Timekeeper is the new PlayStation-exclusive map, and it’s a looker!

Thieves’ Den is an intimate arena set in the tunnels under Venus. Black Shield is a medium-sized map set on Phobos. Widow’s Court takes the fight to Earth’s European Dead Zone, a striking thematic departure for Destiny — expect crumbling gothic spires, stained glass, and overgrown plant life.

Across the board, House of Wolves aims to make Crucible a more rewarding endeavour. You’ll earn double the engrams and marks in Crucible matches, and guaranteed rewards for participating in the daily featured game. Not bad!

Then there’s Trials of Osiris, a new weekly event designed to captivate high-level Crucible players with new challenges and exclusive rewards. The pitch: You gather your best gear and two friends to take on a punishing 3v3 Elimination challenge. The Trials of Osiris challenge opens up each Friday and closes each Sunday.

These Elimination matches are tight, intense affairs where every kill counts. Fall, and you’ll need to be revived by a teammate (unless you’re a Warlock sporting that uber-handy Fireborn self-revive ability). The first team to win five rounds wins claims victory, though you’re free to keep competing all weekend long.

To participate in the Trials, you’ll need to buy a Trials Passage from Brother Vance, a new NPC in The Reef, House of Wolves’ new social space. This Passage works like a scorecard; once you’re ready to claim your hard-earned rewards, you’ll hand the Passage into Brother Vance for a shot at winning exclusive weapons and armour. Take note: The Osris-themed gear is some of the best in the game.

House of Wolves comes to PS4 and PS3 on 19th May.

PlayStation Plus in May: Ether One, Hohokum, Murasaki Baby, more

It’s that time of the month again! That’s right, a fresh batch of PlayStation Plus games are just seven days away, so if you haven’t already done so make sure you pick up all of April’s goodies before they disappear.

Without further ado, let’s crack on with the great games coming your way on 6th May:

Ether One (PS4)

First up this month on PS4 is yet another day one title for PS Plus. I’m extremely excited to present the mind-twisting adventure Ether One from the extremely talented team at White Paper Games.

There are two ways to approach Ether One. At its core is a story exploration path free from puzzles where you can unfold the game’s mysterious story at your own pace. But you can also take a deeper, more adventurous approach in which you’ll have to tackle complex puzzles. The choice is up to you.

Hohokum (PS4, PS3 and PS Vita)

Finally this month make sure you pick up Hohokum. Take on the role of a curious flying kite-like being. Along your travels through the vibrant world, you’ll uncover secrets by interacting with elements around you in different ways. At its heart, Hohokum is a playground — a place to wander about and get lost in. Expect an mesmerising, expressive creation that’s unlike anything you’ve ever played before.

Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition (PS4)

Next up, a supersized version of one our favourite PS3 and PS Vita titles. Guacamelee! More than just a port, the Super Turbo Championship Edition of Guacamelee! includes all the DLC and a whole chunk of brand new content, so even if you have previously played this on PS3 there’s plenty here to tempt you back in!

The Unfinished Swan (PS4, PS3 and PS Vita)

Enter the surreal world of The Unfinished Swan and explore a mysterious, hidden kingdom. Your journey will be led by a runaway swan who guides you through strange levels filled with bizarre creatures. Each level offers new twists, challenges and puzzles, until you eventually come face-to-face with the eccentric king that built this realm.

Race the Sun (PS4, PS3 and PS Vita)

Next up, a title that will really test your gaming skills where speed is a vital element in your survival. In Race the Sun you play as a solar-powered craft that slows down in the shadows. Look out for speed boosts to help you complete objectives and unlock helpful power-ups.

Murasaki Baby (PS Vita)

We’ve something truly unique for PS Vita owners this month. The stunning debut from Ovosonico tells the story of a little girl who wakes up in a weird world, populated by children’s fantasies and fears. Holding a purple, heart-shaped balloon in her hand, she feels lost, homesick and vulnerable. She wants her mommy…

Mighty No. 9 release date confirmed for PS4 and PS3

Hello PlayStation fans! At long last am I able to share new and exciting details about Mighty No. 9, as Deep Silver announces a partnership with comcept and legendary designer Keiji Inafune to increase the reach and scope of this incredible, beloved title. Deep Silver will bring the title to retail this fall, with even more content for new and established fans around the world.

Mighty No. 9 is truly a transformative experience for the 2D side-scrolling action genre, with deep roots in gaming spanning generations of gamers. Taking into account decades of design experience as well as tens of thousands of pieces of feedback from the Kickstarter backers (thank you!), comcept and Inti Creates have put together all of the best elements of 8 and 16-bit classics that you love, and infused them with fresh mechanics to reinvigorate the genre.

With today’s announcement, we’re pleased to tell you that the game will release physically on PlayStation 4 as well as digitally on all three PlayStation platforms: PS4, PS3, and PS Vita. PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 will launch simultaneously on 18th September 2015, with the PS Vita version coming shortly after.

Comcept is continuing their hard work making Mighty No. 9 the best game possible. We’re excited for everyone to get their hands on the game, but in the meantime we’ve listed a couple of the specific features you can look forward to when the game launches on 18th September.

• Play through 12 unique and challenging stages in a single player campaign.
• Unlock New Game+ to add an additional two extra difficulty levels including a punishing Turbo mode.
• Single player Challenge mode with dozens of mini missions for the hardest of challenges.
• Boss Rush Mode: Play through each of the game’s bosses, back to back, with a clock ticking to keep track of your best time.
•  Show the world how Mighty you are in the two player online Race Battle where you compete online, racing through each stage together in a head to head battle – adding an all new twist on versus mode play that will give Mighty No. 9 life well beyond the single-player campaign.
• Two player online co-op Challenge Mode: take on over a dozen missions online with a friend, playing as Beck and his partner, Call! Use Beck and Call’s different powers together in order to defeat these special challenges.
• Toggle between regular and 8-bit music: this game is a veritable who’s who of veteran game composers – Manami Matsumae, Takeshi Tateishi, Ippo Yamada. As such, Mighty No. 9 features an optional chiptune version of the entire game soundtrack which you can toggle on and off.
• Brand new Ray DLC which features a new stage with its own unique boss as well as a brand new unlockable playable character.
