Hello there PlayStation folks! It’s with great pleasure that we’re writing our first blog post here. A quick introduction: we’re a small team who have been working on games for more than a decade, but this is our first experience developing for the PS4. We’ve been hard at work for the past year on our debut title, Those Who Remain, which is due for release later this year.
It’s been a long road, but now is the time to reveal what we’ve been working on. So it’s with great pleasure (again) to present our announcement trailer.
Those Who Remain is a psychological thriller that takes place in Dormont, a small fictional town in the US. A place that seems normal on first glance, but is which in fact has been cursed.
Upon arriving in the town, our main character soon learns that he has more to face than his own inner demons. Mysterious entities roam through the dark, taking everyone that gets too close. In order to survive, he has to stay in the light. Light means safety. Darkness equals death.
The darkness is not the only abnormal thing happening in Dormont. There are strange portals that connect our world to another dimension. A dimension similar to ours, yet different: a dark reflection of our own world. And just like reflections, actions in one dimension are mirrored in the other.
These elements allow us to create a surreal place where everything is possible. But we wanted more than just cool mechanics. We’re taking great care to create a gripping narrative, with a story beats that everyone can relate to.
Without spoiling the main narrative – it’s best to discover it while playing- we’ll just say that at the centre of the story is a child who’s been the victim of bullying because she’s seen as different, an outsider and the fallout the events around that brings. And it’s because of those choices that we find our main character arriving in Dormont.
Choices will shape your version of the story, and will decide how it ends and the fate of its characters. This was a direct result of early discussions as we shaped the game’s plot; with such a rich range of potential endings we struggled to pick one. Why not include the choice of all?
This is all that we can reveal for now. Thank you for reading, and from all of us at Camel 101: hope to see you in Dormont!
