New details on both PS4’s Yakuza 6: The Song of Life and remaster Yakuza Kiwami

All the hard-hitting action, heavy drama, and alluring vices of the Japanese criminal underworld are coming to E3 this year because Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza 6: The Song of Life will be playable at the Sega booth (West Hall #4312)!

Yakuza Kiwami is the rebuilt-from-scratch HD remake of the original Yakuza released on PlayStation 2 in 2005.

“Kiwami” translates to “Extreme” and we’ve pulled out all the stops to make Yakuza Kiwami the definitive standard of what a remake should be. It’s not just a simple graphical upgrade — Kiwami adds nearly 30 minutes of cutscenes alone, providing all-new insight into the game’s plot and creating common threads with series prequel Yakuza 0.

There are also added distractions (such as Pocket Circuit car racing, MesuKing: Battle Bug Beauties, and two new hostesses), side quests, combat updates, fully re-recorded Japanese dialogue, and more to bring the original Yakuza game into the latest console generation.

Oh, and a totally new feature is the “Majima Everywhere” system, where the series’ deranged, one-eyed maniac will constantly surprise and challenge Kiryu to combat when he least expects it. For example:

Yakuza 6: The Song of Life is the latest entry in the long-running franchise and will take place in the latest evolution of Kamurocho, the infamous red-light district in Tokyo, and the new city of Onomichi, a beautiful, sleepy port town in Hiroshima Prefecture.

Powered by the new “Dragon Engine,” the game will bring the two locales to life with unparalleled realism. The stakes have never been higher for Kazuma Kiryu, the Dragon of Dojima with a heart of gold, because someone has unwisely decided to hurt his surrogate daughter Haruka.

To make matters worse, Kiryu finds out that Haruka now has an infant son that he must look after. With a baby in tow, Kiryu must do whatever it takes to protect the people he calls family. Even if it means mercilessly bashing thugs with various street signs.

The E3 demo will give players a chance to experience the most visually advanced game in the series for the first time! Expect a harder-hitting fighting system, a selection of wacky side quests that only exist in the world of Yakuza, totally revamped mini-games, and a taste of the gritty human drama that will consume the weathered Dragon of Dojima.
