Greetings, PlayStation fans! It’s Peter here from Games Farm in Slovakia, where we’re putting the finishing touches to our upcoming Action RPG epic Vikings – Wolves of Midgard!
As of today we’re just one week away from release, so we thought this would be a good time to sharpen your axes by presenting a rundown of the best features of our Asgardian adventure.
From shining a spotlight on key gameplay features to tips, extra modes and replayability, we’ll be showing you that there’s more to Vikings – Wolves of Midgard that meets the eye and making sure that you’ve got all the insider knowledge to make the most of your adventures in Midgard when the game launches on 24th March!
So without any further ado, before the frost of Fimbulwinter freezes us over – here are seven things that you need to know before you play Vikings – Wolves of Midgard:
1. New Game +
You know how this one works, I’m sure. Blast your way past the ending credits of your first playthrough of Vikings – Wolves of Midgard and you’ll find yourself with the option of wiping down your blade and readying yourself for another blood-soaked jaunt through the wilds of Midgard, keeping all of your previous level and gifts intact, but also allowing you to master every combat style to further increase your dominance in battles. And if your skills are formidable enough, then you can also take on…
2. The Trials of the Gods
This mode is a personal favourite of mine, and is a great way to push your combat skills to the limit while unlocking all sorts of goodies for your Viking warrior or shieldmaiden.
In the Trials of the Gods, you must withstand wave after wave of increasingly-challenging enemies or play through tough boss challenges to earn equipment and runes to further boost your character’s abilities. There are some great rewards to be won, and there’s nothing like throwing your flagon of ale to the ground after a hard-fought victory!
And if you get tired of adventuring alone, maybe it’s time to consider…
3. Two-player online co-op
What’s better than obliterating hordes of enemies with savage weaponry and devastating spells in a frenzy of carnage and bloodlust? Doing it with a friend, of course!
In Vikings – Wolves of Midgard, when you load up a game you will be given the option of making your game a private or public session, enabling drop-in, drop-out co-op adventures with old friends and new allies alike on the PlayStation Network.
We’ll see you there – but if you’re going to team-up, you’ll need to make sure that you…
4. Optimise your equipment and weapon sets
There’s a huge variety of weapons and armour in Vikings – Wolves of Midgard, and each choice will determine your play style in various ways. Heavy armour will increase your defense but will also increase the cooldown timers for your abilities, which may favour a melee-focused combat style but hinder those who rely on spellcasting to flay their enemies.
But never fear – we’ve made it so that you can easily switch between primary and secondary configurations so that you can change your tactics depending on the threat at hand. Equipment isn’t everything, though – to win the day you’re going to have to…
5. Master positioning and unleash your rage
Not all enemies can be bested by a direct attack – shielded warriors will punish your wayward strikes, and monstrous giants will quickly give you a lesson in pain if you don’t learn to position yourself and take down your foes in the right way.
Dart around slower enemies to attack weak spots from behind, and remember that certain environmental features can be used to your advantage! During combat, you’ll also notice your rage meter building – when charged, this ability will show those that oppose you what true power is.
To improve and customize the devastating effects of rage, as well as your other abilities and weapons, you’ll also need to…
6. Upgrade Ulfung Village and perform blood sacrifices
Early on in the game you will be tasked with rebuilding and upgrading the various buildings and features of the village in order to unlock a whole host of benefits.
The weaponsmith, armourer, Skald and runesmith will prove vital allies in your quest – but you’ll also want to pay attention to the altar, which demands you sacrifice the blood of your enemies to improve your core stats, which will in turn have an effect on your other abilities.
We’re almost done now, but there’s one more thing we’d like to talk about – an extra special bonus for our fans playing on PS4…
7. PlayStation Store exclusive pre-order bonus DLC pack
Fans that pre-order the digital version of Vikings – Wolves of Midgard on the PlayStation Store can look forward to unlocking an additional tattoo, hairstyle and clan symbol for their Viking, with an extra beard style for male warriors and tribal jewelry for shieldmaidens! Not only that, but PlayStation Plus members can also get a 10% discount on the game.
There we go, folks – seven things that you now know as you head into the world of Vikings – Wolves of Midgard. We can’t wait to finally get the game out there in the wild, and we look forward to meeting you on the PlayStation Network as we battle our way through the hordes of Ragnarok!
