What would you do if you were the lone survivor on a martian colony? You can find out in Subterrain, a survival game with old school, hardcore gameplay.
Subterrain is my first indie game after spending much of my career in the AAA game development. When I initially set out to create a new title, I wasn’t exactly sure what it would be. All I had in my mind was a simple question: “what if?” and let inspiration come.
This end result is an open world survival game. That means there are no set missions. Instead, you must experiment, discover clues scattered around the colony, upgrade and craft in order to survive and achieve your ultimate goal: escape.
The task is not easy. You’re in a race against time. Not only must you struggle against your own bodily needs, but the world around you is constantly evolving, threats are escalating. You will pay for any bad decision made. Colony life will eventually overwhelm you.
For example, at one point you may find yourself struggling to find food, or being hunted. You may have to defend your base from invasion by dangerous mutants. You could find you’re running out of oxygen…
It’s simply an amazing feeling to be in a position where people around the world will be enjoying the work you have created over many difficult years. Those memories and the journey myself and the team have been through are simply amazing. All the feedback – good and bad – from fans, mixed with the personal sacrifices made to reach the last hurdle of this project is overwhelming.
I salute other indie game developers who haven’t given up and made their dreams come true. I hope that I can continue on this journey for the years to come.
In closing, I would like to personally thank everyone who has been involved in the making of this game. This simply wouldn’t have happened without you.
When Subterrain releases on 25th January and for the first two weeks of launch, you’ll be able to pick it up with 20% off the normal price. Don’t miss out!
