Kingpin, Miles Morales and Mary Jane Watson star in new PS4 trailer for Marvel’s Spider-Man

Hey everyone, my name is Bryan Intihar and I’m the Creative Director for Insomniac Games working on Marvel’s Spider-Man.

This past summer was a very exciting time for our studio as E3 and D23 served as great avenues to showcase the unique Spider-Man game universe we’re building. Since then we know you’ve been anxiously awaiting another look at the Web-Slinger, which is why we were thrilled to unveil a new trailer at the PlayStation Media Showcase at Paris Games Week.

The trailer includes your first glimpses at the man behind the mask – Peter Parker. We also introduce you to Peter’s very close friend Mary Jane Watson, his beloved Aunt May, his longtime nemesis Wilson Fisk (AKA Kingpin), and much more. Check it out:

As Spider-Man asks at the trailer’s conclusion, “anyone else need a breather?” Well, don’t take a break for too long because there’s a lot to go through here!

First off, our 23-year-old Peter finds himself trying to juggle his career and personal life with being a Super Hero. And while he’s more experienced and masterful at fighting crime (including finally taking down the Kingpin), can Peter finally find balance? Or will Spider-Man’s responsibility to protect the city take priority if Kingpin really was the “one who kept order in this city”?

Spider-Man PGW-01Spider-Man PGW-02

In the past we’ve talked a lot about how the best Spider-Man stories happen when Spider-Man and Peter Parker’s worlds collide. So to understand Peter’s world a bit, players will also play as Peter during parts of the game. Not only that, Mary Jane has a significant role here too. MJ is a smart, savvy reporter with The Daily Bugle and she’s investigating the suspicious activity happening throughout the city. She won’t be just a bystander either, so yes, players will even play as MJ for key moments.

Spider-Man PGW-03Spider-Man PGW-04Spider-Man PGW-05

MJ, however, isn’t the only intersection between Peter and Spider-Man’s worlds. His own Aunt May is a longtime employee of philanthropist Martin Li at his F.E.A.S.T. shelters. Peter even introduces a young Miles Morales to his aunt as a new shelter volunteer.

Unfortunately, Peter makes the terrible discovery that May’s employer is secretly Mister Negative (you can see that moment in our E3 2017 Gameplay Demo). Mister Negative and his Inner Demons’ reign of terror on New York City pose the most serious – and personal – threat that our Spider-Man has faced in his eight years of web-swinging and crime fighting.

We couldn’t be more excited to be bringing Spider-Man to the PlayStation 4 in 2018. To celebrate the trailer, we are hosting a special livestream this Friday, 3rd November, at 9pm GMT.

We’ll be doing a rewind of the trailer, giving away rare development team swag, and answering your questions. If you have something you’d like to ask, we’ll be putting out a call for questions on Twitter and you can tweet us your question. Join us this Friday at http://ift.tt/1lUN5MT.

And in the interim – be sure to visit the game’s official page for more details and brand-new screenshots – as well as follow Insomniac Games on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook for the latest news and info.

Control time to solve puzzles in evocative PS4 adventure The Gardens Between, out 2018

The Gardens Between is a homage to the bonds of childhood friendship that felt that they could never be broken.

Arina and Frendt, the two protagonists, are inseparable friends who markedly shape one another as they grow up. They fall into a mysterious world of beautiful garden islands, where cause and effect are malleable. As you follow them on their journey, a story about friendship, childhood and growing up unfolds.

In this game, you don’t control the characters; in this game, you control TIME.

The Gardens Between PGW-01

I’m Matt, and at The Voxel Agents we’ve been working on this wild game idea for some time. Back in 2011, we had a concept for a game based on that scene in Minority Report where Tom Cruise is scrubbing backwards and forwards within a memory, trying to uncover clues. We built several prototypes around the idea, and one of those prototypes blossomed into The Gardens Between.

The game follows two best friends, Arina and Frendt, who find themselves in this strange and surreal world of garden islands. As a player, you follow the pair and manipulate time to solve puzzles and uncover the gardens’ secrets. As you control time, moving it backwards and forwards, the characters can manipulate the world around them, changing the flow of cause and effect.

The Gardens Between PGW-02

One of our driving principles during development was to build a game that anyone can play. We wanted The Gardens Between to have simple controls, to encourage stress-free exploration, and to tell a genuine story without text or dialogue. We strongly believe that games are for everyone, and The Gardens Between fits that perfectly.

At its core, the game is about exploring, but unlike most games, where you explore space, in The Gardens Between you explore time. In some ways this is simpler. On a timeline you can only move forwards and backwards, but time travel is full of its own complexities, and that’s where the puzzle elements come in.

Building a game where you control time is full of challenges. It’s very hard to separate time and space as concepts – but that is also part of what makes the design (and gameplay!) so exciting.

The Gardens Between PGW-03

At The Voxel Agents, we’re all about beautiful, simple, crafted experiences, he kind of games that we played growing up. It’s no coincidence that our game is packed full of 90s childhood nostalgia. We’re super excited to be launching The Gardens Between on PS4 next year, and we can’t wait for everyone to play it. We’ve poured our souls into The Gardens Between, and we think you’re going to absolutely love it!

Avicii’s rhythm action EDM adventure Invector resurfaces at Paris Games Week

Hey! Glad to be back with some news from us at Hello There Games! Let’s get right to it: we are nearing release of Invector, our rhythm game featuring EDM star Avicii.

As some of you might remember, it’s been two years since we had the pleasure of announcing the development of this game at the Paris Game Week. Since then, we’ve been hard at work and now we’re finally ready for take-off.

TITLE

One of our major challenges was the total overhaul of the game’s level design. Our initial take was a semi-auto-generated system; syncing obstacles, pickups and other elements to each track. Ultimately, we felt that it simply didn’t deliver the quality we aimed for. So we scrapped that, and developed tools for traditional, handmade custom design.

That way, we managed to grant each track the attention it deserved and utilize the unique components of every hit song you play in the game – the melodies, rhythms, harmonies, beats and vocals.

Also, tracks now come in three difficulties, making sure the game has something for both music lovers who enjoy a more casual experience, as well as hardcore rhythm game fanatics.

TITLETITLE

We also took a long and hard look at the graphics: we really wanted to raise the bar.

Apart from creating a series of stunning worlds, the obstacle here was balancing the dynamic feedback visually, based on a player’s performance and the song’s BPM. We had to make sure that even the most casual players, while failing a lot, had an enjoyable experience. And at the same time, feedback needed to scale towards a rich rewarding feeling for all the pros out there.

It was tricky, but we’re confident that we found a great balance.

TITLETITLE

Working close to Avicii gave us access to his awesome music and his creative input regarding the overall experience of the game. This was extra valuable when we explored
aspects of playing with friends, and in creating that feeling of partying at a concert with your closest mates.

Finally, there’s a little story in Invector now. You’ll get to meet Stella, collector pilot H45H1M. Joining her will take you from one gorgeous planet to the next, with a couple of bumps on the road. We’re really excited to have musician and singer Maya Tuttle giving Stella a voice – and hope you will take her to heart as much as we have.

New action-packed Far Cry 5 co-op trailer doubles down on mayhem

When you’re trying to take down an insidious cult that has gripped a small town in its violent clutches, it’s nice to have a friend along for the ride. That’s why the developers of Far Cry 5 have designed the entire campaign to support co-op play.

Whether you’re taking on missions to root out the Project at Eden’s Gate or just cruising the countryside in a pickup while your buddy flies a plane overhead, the vast open world of Montana is more than big enough for the both of you.

Once you’ve completed the intro section of Far Cry 5, all you need to do is send an invite to someone on your Friends list (who has also completed the FC5 intro) to get your co-op session going.

Your friend will spawn into your world seamlessly, and the two of you can get busy liberating Hope County. Every mission is playable in co-op, but there are also Challenges and a bevy of other activities you can take on, not to mention simply roaming the open world and causing havoc for the cultists.

Far Cry 5 PGW-01

“We had to look at every system and every kind of mission and activity we created, and make sure that it was co-op compatible,” says Clark Davies, the Lead Game Designer on Far Cry 5.

This included developing features to streamline teamwork, like having each player see their own loot, so there’s no fighting over resources.

If your teammate is running low on ammunition, a prompt will appear over their head to let you share ammo and medkits to help keep them in the fight.

And if any disagreements should arise, take comfort in knowing that friendly fire is disabled by default, though you can enable it if you want to put your friendship to the test.

Far Cry 5 PGW-02

Both of you will appear as your customised characters and both of you will keep any player progression you make during your co-op session, including currency earned, items purchased, perks unlocked, and more.

Only the host will keep any world progression, however, including quests completed, quest rewards, outposts liberated, and completion of other open-world activities. Also, only the host can recruit an AI ally to join your merry band using the Guns For Hire system.

“The Guns For Hire system was built with co-op in mind from the start,” explains Davies. “As a player, you can have up to two buddies join you – a co-op friend plus an AI companion, or two AI companions. So you can have both Boomer [the gun-fetching, enemy-mauling canine companion] and a friend in your squad. And yes, both players can pet Boomer!”

Far Cry 5 PGW-03

If you can manage to tear yourself away from scratching Boomer behind his floppy ears, the possibilities for co-op shenanigans are endless.

Davies recounts a few of his favourite moments from dev team play sessions: “Seeing two players work together to liberate our toughest outposts completely stealthily, without being detected, is great to watch. And we’ve seen some great co-op moments with our new aircraft.

The pilot was dogfighting with an enemy plane, while the co-op passenger jumped out, opened her parachute, and used her rocket launcher to destroy the enemy plane before the pilot could take it out!”

Challenge accepted. Far Cry 5 is arriving on PlayStation 4 on 27th February, 2018, and co-op play will require that both players have PlayStation Plus memberships. To learn more about Far Cry 5 and place your pre-order, visit the official site.
