Out-there fantasy business sim Shoppe Keep hits PS4 in early 2017

We’re very excited to be bringing Shoppe Keep to the PS4 in early 2017! Our fantasy business management game has found a great home among gamers. However, we want to welcome more players than ever before to the completely normal world of Shoppe Keep, and so we are bringing the game to the PS4 early next year!

What have PC Shoppe Keep players said about the game? “The concept of this game is really amazing!”; “Just an amazing game”; “This game is legendary.”

So what is it that’s so good about Shoppe Keep?

Grow and run your business

Setting up shoppe in ye olde world of Shoppe Keep is one of the first things you’ll do once you get your hands on the game! You have the ability to choose your own stock, set your own prices, and layout your shoppe-floor however you wish to. Though, be warned! Your customers can… overreact just a little bit if you make choices they do not favour.

Shoppe Keep

Sell to a wide range of customers

Come early 2017, you’ll be able to sell staffs, swords, bows and arrows, mage cloaks, warrior armour and much more! You’ll stand at your store entrance like a proud parent seeing their child off to school – but instead, you’ll be seeing your customer walk off to battle a dragon in your best armour, probably never to return again.

Buy a huge mechanical grinder?

You’ll often have to clear up the mess made by pesky customers, and you’ll need something to rid of the excess. What you choose to chuck in the grinder is up to you…

Shoppe Keep

Murder store enemies!

Sometimes thieves and barbarians can completely wreck the very Shoppe that you’ve worked so hard to build and maintain! Swords and magic are at your disposal to… dispose of trouble.

Sweep corpses from the floor!

Don’t want to fill your store’s grinder with flesh and bones? Then use the mighty broomstick to clear up!

Shoppe Keep

As you can tell, Shoppe Keep will deliver an entirely relaxing game about being a shoppe keeper in a lovely fantasy world! Tell your friends all about this perfectly safe and calm game, and we’ll see you all on PS4 in early 2017!

Follow us on Twitter and Facebook to keep up to date!

Sophisticated arcade brawler Way of the Passive Fist is coming to PS4 in 2017

I’m really looking forward to PlayStation Experience this year, and I’m very proud to announce that Household Games’ first title, Way of the Passive Fist, is coming to PS4 in 2017. I am also very excited to announce that Way of the Passive Fist will be playable for the first time at PlayStation Experience 2016 this weekend.

In Way of the Passive Fist you play as The Wanderer, a mysterious figure of unknown origin who has mastered the art of the Passive Fist and fights enemies defensively to wear down even the mightiest of opponents.

Unlike most arcade-style brawlers, The Wanderer doesn’t have a basic attack like a punch or a kick, instead you have an array of parries, deflections and dodges at your disposal. No button mashing here… keep your cool, study your enemies and survive in the wasteland.

Be passive, then aggressive

You can’t always be passive, sometimes you need to make a statement, and The Wanderer has a secret weapon tucked away: A mechanically augmented arm that’s extremely powerful but requires a lot of energy to use.

Luckily, the energy you absorb from enemy attacks charges it up allowing for powerful strikes that can cut down any enemy in your way. It’s the right amount of brute force, right when you need it, and it can also rip apart objects in the environment to find useful items and secrets.

Way of the Passive Fist

Our own ’90s cartoon universe

From the very beginning, we set out to create a licensed game for the ’90s cartoon we wish existed. A lot of my favourite games are the licensed brawlers based on popular cartoons and comic books, and I wanted Way of the Passive Fist to have the same level of exuberance and flair. That feeling when you get to a boss fight and you come face-to-face with one of the villains from the show, that’s a feeling I’d like to create in the game.

The game’s setting is Planet Eiectus, a world ruled by its volatile and overwhelming sun. Everything on this world is solar powered, but the harsh conditions also make survival extremely difficult. Exhausting oneself is a death sentence. By mastering the Passive Fist technique, The Wanderer continues to endure in the face of desert raiders, mad scientists and fanatical sun worshippers.

Way of the Passive Fist

Accessibility

In addition to all this Saturday morning-fueled action, I’m proud to say that accessibility is a key focus in Way of the Passive Fist. We’re working with speedrunner and accessibility advocate Clint “Halfcoordinated” Lexa as our accessibility and design consultant. With his help, we’re making sure everything in the game, the controls, the graphics, the audio and even the gameplay have options to make them as accessible as possible. With this focus in mind, we’ve also created some unique features that will make the game better for all players!

Way of the Passive Fist

If you’re looking for an arcade brawler offering something new and want to fight your way through an awesome cartoon-inspired universe, I hope you’ll check out Way of the Passive Fist at PlayStation Experience 2016.

Create, share & destroy galaxies in Space Overlords on PS4 & PS Vita from 6th December

For a while now, we’ve been teasing that Space Overlords will be hitting PlayStation platforms in December, and today we can unveil that the game will release in just over a week – Space Overlords will arrive on PS4 and PS Vita on 6th December 2016!

If you haven’t yet heard about Space Overlords, I’ll give you a quick rundown:

  • Customise planets to a tee
  • Create your own galaxy
  • Share your creations with the world
  • Download and explore other community-created galaxies
  • Choose from one of six entirely varied Space Overlords and decimate entire planets

Space Overlords

I don’t blame you if you’ve already decided to purchase Space Overlords after reading those quick-fire pointers! As if that wasn’t already a huge enough game for you to get your teeth into, I haven’t even mentioned the single player campaigns (yes, ‘campaigns’ with an ‘s’!) and the local multiplayer modes!

For a game this huge, its pocket-money price is almost a steal – and what’s more, Space Overlords supports Cross-Buy! If you purchase the game on either PS4 or PS Vita, you’ll automatically receive the other version at no extra cost.

But I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s move back and speak a little about some of Space Overlords’ most exciting features.

Galaxy creation

Do you remember creating your own worlds and sharing them with the community when you played LittleBigPlanet? Well, Space Overlords offers a similar sense of achievement, even if our game’s tone is a little more doom-mongering than that of LittleBigPlanet’s.

Space Overlords

Space Overlords allows you to name your own galaxy (yeah, I can’t wait to see what perfectly lovely and not at all rude names the community comes up with either), and populate it with multiple planets. From forest, to desert, to slick sci-fi synthetic material, you can choose your planet’s base, and then populate it with a plethora of buildings, civilisations, cities and much more.

Of course, once you’re done crafting your galaxy, you can share your creation with the Space Overlords community for anyone to download and play. I recommend excitedly ringing up your friends and telling them how great your new galaxy is and how they should totally go and play on it. I promise they won’t be annoyed at all! (We hold no responsibility for angry friends) Once you’ve landed on a planet, you’re tasked with destroying literally everything you’ve built. I’m sure there’s a deep psychological meaning in that past sentence, but I’m not going to spell it out.

Single player campaigns

Despite the huge galaxy creation system being established enough to grant a game release of its own, it is by no means everything Space Overlords has to offer!

While gameplay is a huge focus for Space Overlords, so is storytelling. Of course, I wouldn’t want to spoil the narrative for you all, but it’s as large in scale as you’d expect – a tale of vengeance spanning multiple galaxies.

Space Overlords

You choose from six different playable Space Overlords, that all possess their own game-changing abilities, and set off on your epic journey, battling through brilliantly hand-crafted worlds. Each planet is a 360 degree level of its own, providing a unique perspective for you to battle from. With just the swing of an arm or a single step, your hulking Space Overlord can lay waste to entire civilisations.

Multiplayer

Space Overlords

Space Overlords also contains multiple modes for up to four-players. Our game sees the return of classic couch co-op, allowing you and up to three other friends to crowd round the TV and crush planets together.
Who hasn’t dreamed of doing that with their friends, right? Oh. Nobody? Okay, I’ll keep quiet.

Space Overlords

And with that, I’ve covered, in short, just about everything Space Overlords has to offer. I hope that you’ll enjoy the game and will be bringing havoc to planets for months to come! If you’ve decided to pick up the game, be sure to let us know what you think, by speaking to us on Twitter and Facebook!

Space Overlords will release worldwide for the PS4 and PS Vita on 6th December 2016. In addition, we are hoping to release a PS3 version of Space Overlords in the new year!

No Man’s Sky update adds base building, new game modes and freighters

Since No Man’s Sky released, we’ve been overwhelmed with feedback, and it’s good to finally be able to share with you what we’ve been up to.

Immediately after No Man’s Sky released the team spent six weeks updating the game with several patches (the last of these was 1.09 on 24th September which you can read about them all here. These fixed many of the most common and critical bugs and issues.

In the nine weeks since then our small team has been hard at work on development, testing and certification for this first update.

Update 1 adds base building, and it’s a foundation of things to come. Check out the video:

You can also read very in depth patch notes here.

Firstly, we have introduced three game modes:

  • Normal mode is the original chilled exploration experience.
  • Creative mode allows players to explore the universe without limits, and build the biggest base they can (more on this below).
  • Survival mode creates a much more challenging endurance experience.

No Man's Sky

Secondly, the update brings base building to the game, allowing players to start building a homestead on a planet of their choosing. Bases are used for shelter and storage, but we’ve also introduced farming crops and you can hire NPCs from Space Stations to research new tech and products for you. Players can teleport back to their base at any time.

No Man's Sky

Having a base from which to explore the No Man’s Sky universe unlocks many new abilities and features. Players can also build equipment in the field, such as save points (essential for Survival mode), way points (to permanently mark and return to your discoveries), mining harvesters (to gather resources in your absence) and Signal Scanners (to find nearby resource deposits).

No Man's Sky

Freighters are the third key update being introduced in Update 1. These ships can be found cruising through space and, upon boarding, players can choose to buy the loyalty of the ship’s captain to take control of them. Goods can be teleported to your freighter from on-planet, and stockpiled for trading, and owned freighters can be summoned from anywhere in the Galaxy.

No Man's Sky

There’s a number of other improvements to the game too, including requested tweaks such as Stackable Products, larger inventories, a quick menu and more.

We hope you enjoy it, and get in touch to let us know where you’d like to see the game go in the future.

Thank you,

Hello Games

The abandoned tech demo that become the basis of upcoming PS4 adventure Little Nightmares

Those of you that know a little about us already, may already know the story of how Tarsier got started, but maybe the beginnings of Little Nightmares are less familiar. As with any good origin tale, it all starts with a flashback…

Although we didn’t know it at the time, the first seeds of Little Nightmares were sown in 2012 with a tech demo called ‘dollhouse’. With a cylindrical building as its focal point, it gave players the ability to pan, rotate, and zoom in to a bunch of individual, interconnected rooms, and managed to feel both playful and downright creepy. It was a simple premise, but one that captured our imagination. So, naturally, we did nothing more with it!

http://ift.tt/2gbW1xG

Dollhouse tech demo – Scandinavian design at its best: minimalism and functionality

Over the next months, other cool ideas started to show up in different parts of the office. There were concept sketches of vast, organic sea vessels; and of grotesque characters gorging themselves. There were nostalgic discussions about games where players were trusted to play, free to explore, and abandoned to fear. And there were stories that we wanted to tell. Stories that went somewhere new, unpleasant, and unexpected. And, of course, there was the ‘dollhouse camera’.

http://ift.tt/2gbWoYY

Chef character Art – Don’t you want to hug their smooshy faces?

As these different elements found each other, so too did our understanding of what this game could actually become. Focusing on a young skinny girl trapped in the middle of a grotesque feast, the game was primarily about greed, and consumption, and the general unpleasantness of food. So we called it Hunger, not stopping to think for one second about the potential pitfalls of searching for ‘Hunger game’ on Google!

Coming up with names can be tough. It can seem such a small and trivial thing, but it’s a real balancing act. Pay it too little attention and the whole thing can just feel crap and cliché; but if you overthink it, everything feels weighed down by its own self-importance.

Six was a name that just fit the character we were creating. It had an androgynous quality that we enjoyed. We weren’t making a game about a girl in peril, just a kid. A mysterious kid. Six told us nothing, but asked plenty of questions.

The Maw worked in a similar way. Beginning life as some sort of petri dish where we would put unpleasant things and leave them to evolve, this was a place that could eat you up and spit you out in far too many ways. As arguably the game’s two most important characters, Six & The Maw felt right. They might not like each other, but they certainly work well together!

http://ift.tt/2gbZ5cY

The Maw Concept Art – A place no one has returned from to tell the tale.

So the first step was out of the way, we thought all this could be cool, but the next step was the hardest – convincing other people! To do this, we knew that we needed some sort of prototype, and to do that, we knew that we needed some sort of money.

Luckily for us, there was hope on the horizon, in the shape of Nordic Game and Creative Europe, whose support helped us develop both a prototype and a teaser trailer, and this gave us something solid to show off when meeting publishers at Game Connection. One of the publishers we talked to was Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe who, quite simply, were very cool. They got the vision, and they wanted to help us achieve it. In the end, it felt like a very natural fit.

As is often the case, the original concept evolved over time, and began to encompass more than just the foul delights of food and flesh. With a character like Six, stuck in a place like The Maw, it started to feel natural to explore themes of childhood. Looking back on our own memories of childhood, we realised that playfulness, adventure and fear could – and should – exist together in the same world. Needless to say, Hunger as a title just didn’t fit the bill anymore, and after a long, painful renaming process (where I think we emptied the world of Post-It Notes), we eventually found our Little Nightmares!

There’s way more to say about the game – the art direction, the gameplay, and the characters you’ll meet – and we will get to that, but for now I hope you at least have a better idea of how it all started. We never really had a masterplan for getting to this point, just a bunch of little ideas that we had a good feeling about. Sometimes that’s all you need.

But signing with a major publisher helps a bit too!

Oh, and if you simply can’t wait ’til the game is released next Spring, you could always have a go at the interactive demo and guide Six through the foul kitchen to redeem an exclusive DLC mask for her at game launch.

Little Nightmares

Here is a little teaser to help you make the right choices.
