First gameplay details of Destiny 2’s open beta ahead of its PS4 launch this month

Bungie isn’t messing around, as today it revealed the first details of Destiny 2‘s beta, which kicks off later this month. The beta – with early access from 18th July if you pre-order and 21st July for everyone else – will provide a sampling of Destiny’s different play modes. Here’s what’s scheduled on PS4, straight from Bungie HQ:

Destiny 2 campaign

You’ll get a chance to try the first mission in Destiny 2’s campaign. What does Dominus Ghaul want with the Traveler?

Crucible competitive play

The Destiny 2 Open Beta comes with support for two competitive modes. In the new mode Countdown, you’ll attack or defend a base on a map custom-built for this new scenario. In Control, an update on the Crucible standby, you’ll attempt to dominate zones on a map built for this objective type.

Strike

In the Inverted Spire Strike, you’ll assault a well-protected Vex stronghold with the help of two teammates. You can also use matchmaking to join up with a Guardian fireteam!

New subclasses

Each Class’s new fighting style will be available in the Open Beta — that means Warlocks can try out the Dawnblade, Hunters the Arcstrider, and Titans the Sentinel.

How to get access

Pre-ordering grants you early access to the Destiny 2 Open Beta on PS4 starting 18th July.

 

The Destiny 2 open beta will also offer fans a chance to check out The Farm, Destiny 2’s new social space. Bungie is extending an open invitation to open beta players to participate in a limited technical test. Take a tour of The Farm from 6pm BST to 7pm BST on Sunday, 23rd July to see how many players the new social space can accommodate at one time. Note: Most vendors and other services will be non-operational.

Watch 24 minutes of epic Monster Hunter: World action in new PS4 gameplay demo

Hey everyone! I’m Joshua ‘Socks’ Dahdrai, EMEA Community Manager here at Capcom for Monster Hunter.

First of all, I have to say that writing a blog post for a series I grew up with is quite possibly one the most surreal experiences I’ve had to date! Having spent a sizeable portion of my teens and adult years sinking hours into the franchise, it’s safe to say that I’m truly honoured to be able help and see the community grow more and more in the west, and bring the series to PlayStation 4 for the first time!

We’ve been working around the clock to ensure that this entry in the Monster Hunter franchise is the greatest it can be, and we figured it’s probably time that we share more about what Monster Hunter: World is, and why we’re so excited for you to get it in your hands as soon as humanly possible!

With the technologies available in the current generation, the development team went back to the drawing board and re-examined the core concept of what makes this franchise so unique, Hunting. With those thoughts in mind they’ve introduced new mechanics, and re-imagined some old ones to truly make you feel as if you’re stalking your prey in treacherous lands.

We’ve created a gameplay walkthrough for you that highlights some of the exciting content we showed off behind closed doors at E3 in our Monster Hunter theatre, just to introduce you guys to how Monster Hunter: World is truly the next big step in the series.

The gameplay video shows a brave hunter embarking on a quest to slay the all new Anjanath. But it’s not as easy as it sounds as the living and breathing ecosystem affects your gameplay at every moment, resulting in an incredibly dynamic experience. You’ll even need to use it to your advantage and maybe even pit some of the monsters against each other to instigate some seriously awesome battle royales!

I don’t want to give too much away and spoil the video for you, so check it out for yourselves below! I hope after watching it that you’re as ready as I am to sink countless hours into hunting and discovering new ways to take down your prey!

Monster Hunter: World will be coming to PlayStation 4 in early 2018 as a worldwide simultaneous launch so hunters won’t have too long to wait before they can embark on this epic hunt for themselves.

10 expert tips for dying slightly less frequently in Housemarque’s brutal PS4 shooter Nex Machina

How you getting on, Nex Machina players? We figured to give you all a couple of weeks to adjust to our latest twin-stick shooter experience before chiming in with some hints as how to better your leaderboard-chasing runs (and also highlight some things you may have missed). And for any of you newcomers thinking about diving into our bullet hell world? Best wrap your eyes around the following to prep you ahead of play.

1. Be mindful of your surroundings
    

   

   Nex Machina’s gameplay is relentless. New enemies are spawning rapidly, so the you should constantly be alert and looking for where the next wave of enemies will come from.

2. It’s all about the score
    

   

   You should always try to improve your score. Basically everything you do in the game gives you score points. Try to save the humans, kill the enemies and to destroy anything that looks like it can be destroyed.

3. Multiplier is the key
    

   

   The main secret of getting a good score is to increase your multiplier as quickly as you can. You can find multiplier tokens in yellow crates, which are sprinkled around in each world, or by successfully destroying a pattern of visitors. Enemies also start dropping multiplier tokens once you have all power-ups collected.

4. Keep up the human combo
    

   

   Maintaining the human combo makes your multiplier increase faster. It’s a good idea to let the human meter deplete almost completely before picking up the next human, thus maximizing the duration of the combo. Remember that the combo carries over to the next level.

5. Know your beams
    

   

   There are two types of laser beams in the game. Usual beams are bright pink and can be dashed through. Darker, purple beams can’t be dashed thorough and are supposed to be avoided.

6. Search for the secrets in each world
    

   

   There are lots of secrets in each world of Nex Machina. From hidden levels to beacons that yield a large amount of score points.

7. Complete the dash minigame
    

   

   At the end of each level you will see a large circle closing in on a smaller one around your character. If you dash right at the moment when two circles meet, you will get extra score.

8. Complete the world fast to get a better time bonus
    

   

   While the game rewards precision, it is also good to try and complete the levels quickly, since at the end of each world you’ll be given a bonus to your score depending on how fast you were.

9. Reclaim lost power-ups
    

   

   Whenever you die you drop one of your power-ups. It will then stay there for you to pick up until your next death, when you will loose another power-up.

10. Different weapons for different situations
     

    

    Nex has a few different special weapons. Each of them is valuable and provides a lot of help depending on what world and level are you on. Swapping them accordingly whenever possible will improve your ability to deal with what the game throws at you.

Horizon Zero Dawn gets new update today, includes New Game+, Ultra Hard difficulty

We were so excited to be able to announce the upcoming Horizon Zero Dawn expansion, The Frozen Wilds, at E3 this past month. As we were wrapping Horizon Zero Dawn, we had a lot of ideas for new characters, quests, and places for Aloy to discover, so we started to develop The Frozen Wilds. We can’t wait for you to experience the dangerous frigid lands to the north!

While we’re hard at work on The Frozen Wilds, we have also been working on something else…

As of today, you can download patch 1.30 which includes additional fixes to progression issues which some of you may have encountered. However, it also includes the highly anticipated New Game+ option.

With New Game+ you will be able to relive the adventures of Aloy without losing your character progression and your collected inventory. You won’t be able to progress beyond the level cap of 50, but you can still collect XP during your adventure.

 

We have also added updated versions of existing weapons and outfits with an extra modification slot at their disposal. These will not come cheap and will set you back some extra shards.

Before embarking on a new quest you can manually adjust the difficulty level to your liking. For players who seek an extra challenge, we are also introducing an ‘Ultra Hard’ difficulty.

This new setting will enhance machine senses and behaviour and will limit player health regen and other additional smaller tweaks. Players who decide to embark on the Ultra Hard path will not have the option to switch it to a less difficult setting.

 

New Game+ also comes with 2 new Trophies and extra unlockables like the ability to add facepaint or change Aloy’s Focus.

How to set up your smartphone or tablet to play That’s You! on PS4

Good news everyone! PlayLink’s first title, the multiplayer party game That’s You!, is now available on PlayStation Store (and if you’re a PS Plus member, you can get it at no added cost) and retail.

Letting up to six friends answer the important questions about life and each other (like “whose birthday party would attract the weirdest guests?”, or “who’d schedule every hour of your easy-going roadtrip?”) by using their smartphone or tablet with a PS4, it’s the perfect introduction to the new range of games releasing this summer, all under the PlayLink banner.

But how do you get set up to play? It’s quick and easy. Here’s our quick step guide.

1. Purchase and/or download That’s You! onto your PS4 (obviously).
2. Whoever wants to join in to play a game (That’s You! supports up to six players at one time) needs to download and install the free ‘That’s You!’ app. Android owners click here. iOS owners, you’re over here.*
3. Connect your mobile to your PS4. You can do this one of two ways.
   • Connect to the same wi-fi network as your PS4 console (go to Settings < Network < View Connection Status and check the SSID option to confirm the network name).
   • Use your PS4 as a wi-fi hotspot**. Start That’s You on your PS4, and while on the main menu press the OPTIONS button on your DualShock4 controller. Select Wi-Fi hotspot < Yes < Yes to show hotspot details. On each smartphone or tablet that you want to play on, go to settings and select the PS4 hotspot under wi-fi settings.
4. Launch your That’s You! app and press ‘Play’. It’ll find your PS4 and sync with it.

Smash TV, Gauntlet-inspired medieval twin-stick shooter Iron Crypticle fires onto PS4 this month

Hello everyone! This is Dugan from Tikipod here, and we are extremely pleased to introduce our upcoming arcade/RPG twin-stick shooter Iron Crypticle available on PlayStation 4 on 11th July 2017!

Iron Crypticle is an arcade twin-stick dungeon shooter with RPG elements! A mysterious, malevolent force has abducted Cryptonia’s princess – along with the king’s royal golden treasures (shaped curiously like large foodstuffs…).

The washed-up kingsguard must leap into action and plunge down into the ancient magical crypts on a rescue mission!

A modernised mix inspired by arcade classics

We are huge fans of the videogame arcades of the late ’80s and early ’90s which we grew up with, and hope that shows in the games we make.

You could summarise Iron Crypticle structured around the core of Smash TV/Robotron, deepened by an item collection system inspired by Bubble Bobble/Rainbow Islands, all placed in a Ghosts and Goblins/Gauntlet type medieval setting.

 

Gameplay features

The early rooms you encounter may seem easy enough, but if you want to survive past the Guardian Monster of each floor then you’ll need to upgrade your abilities.

Speed, Damage, Fire Rate and Weapon Duration can all be upgraded either from shops or through careful chaining of food pickups.

Most enemies drop a food item (delicious cheese, slices of cake, lollipops, hotdogs, fruit…) with which you need to juggle chain-collecting, all whilst slashing your way through hordes of ghastly creatures.

Route selection is very important too, with each floor made up of a branching system of rooms. Each room type has their advantages and disadvantages – plus with each playthrough the rooms all shift about and reform, just to keep you on your toes!

To help you on your quest are a range of weapons, magical scrolls and items to unlock. For close combat emergencies you can rely on your dash move for quick escape, or activate your Atomic Fist to punch a hole in the enemy ranks.

Be sure to visit the cat merchant (below left)  to see what is on offer. Or try the arcade room (below right) to earn extra coins and health.

You can play solo or up to four-player local co-op; either way you’ll find the crypts run deep with many secrets to uncover on your adventures in Iron Crypticle.
